How do I turn off captions on BritBox on a Samsung TV?
Answer
On Samsung TVs, BritBox captions are usually controlled inside the BritBox player’s subtitle or CC menu, not only in the TV’s system caption settings. Open a playing title, set Subtitles/CC to Off, then confirm Samsung Accessibility captions are also off if text still appears.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not install unknown “TV cleaner” apps or follow popup links that offer to fix captions for a fee.
Follow these steps
Open BritBox playback controls
Start any BritBox title, press the remote’s Select/OK or pause once so the player controls appear, then look for Subtitles, CC, or a speech-bubble icon.
You should see: The subtitle or caption menu for the current title opens.
Set BritBox subtitles to Off
In the BritBox subtitle/CC menu, choose Off or None. Resume playback and watch for a few seconds to confirm the text is gone.
You should see: BritBox no longer shows captions for that title.
Check the BritBox profile language options
If captions return on the next episode, open BritBox account or profile settings from the app menu and set subtitle preference to Off where available.
You should see: New titles start without captions, or the app shows no subtitle preference and you move to TV settings.
Turn off Samsung system captions
Press Home, go to Settings > General or Accessibility (wording varies by year), open Captions or Subtitle settings, and turn Captions off. Return to BritBox and test again.
You should see: System captions are off, and BritBox plays without overlay text.

Extra tips
What to look for: A CC, Subtitles, or speech-bubble icon on the BritBox playback controls, and Samsung Accessibility caption settings under Settings.
Before you change anything: Confirm you are using the BritBox app on a Samsung Smart TV, not only a browser. Note whether captions appear in every app or only BritBox. Have the Samsung remote nearby. No account password changes are required for this fix.
