How do I unlock a Uniden DECT phone when the keypad is locked?

On many Uniden DECT handsets (including models like the DECT1735), hold the * (star) key for a few seconds until the lock icon clears, or open Menu and turn Keypad Lock off. If Menu still does nothing, check that the handset is registered to the base and charged.

Follow these steps
Try the keypad unlock shortcut
With the handset on, press and hold the * (star) key for about 2–3 seconds until you hear a tone or the lock icon disappears. Then try Menu again.
You should see: The keypad unlocks and Menu opens, or the lock icon remains and you need the menu path.
Turn Keypad Lock off in Menu
If Menu opens, go to Settings or Handset setup (wording varies), find Keypad Lock or Lock Keys, and set it to Off. Exit Menu and test the main buttons.
You should see: Keypad Lock is Off and normal dialing/menu keys work.
Charge and reseat the handset
Place the handset on the base until the charging indicator shows activity. After several minutes, power the handset on again and retest Menu and the main key.
You should see: Buttons respond after charging, or the handset still shows lock/out-of-range behavior.
Confirm registration to the base
If the handset says Register, Base, or Out of range, follow the Uniden manual steps to register the handset to that base (usually a Find/Register button on the base plus a Menu register option on the handset).
You should see: The handset shows a normal idle screen linked to the base and keys work for calls and Menu.
