Why does a DVD only play the trailer and not the full movie?

Answer

This usually means the disc menu focus is stuck on Special Features or the player cannot read the main movie title cleanly. Trying the disc’s main menu navigation, another player input, and a second disc often shows whether the problem is the disc, the remote, or the player.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not install unknown DVD “fix” or unlock programs from popups or unofficial download sites.

Follow these steps

  1. Return to the disc main menu

Press Menu, Disc Menu, or Title on the player remote, then use the arrow keys to highlight Play Movie, Main Feature, or a similar option and press OK/Enter.

You should see: The highlight moves off Trailer and the full movie starts, or the Play option still cannot be selected.

  2. Clean and reseat the disc

Eject the DVD, wipe it gently from center to edge with a soft dry cloth, reinsert it shiny side down as the player requires, and try Play again from the menu.

You should see: The player rereads the disc and the main title becomes available, or the same trailer-only behavior continues.

  3. Test another DVD in the same player

Play a different commercial DVD that you know works. Note whether the full movie starts normally.

You should see: You can tell whether the Samsung player works with other discs or fails on every disc.

  4. Try the problem disc on another device

If possible, test the same DVD in another DVD player, game console, or computer optical drive.

You should see: If it fails everywhere, the disc is likely damaged or incomplete; if it works elsewhere, the original player needs setup or service.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the on-screen menu shows Play Movie or Main Feature grayed out or unreachable, and whether other DVDs play normally in the same Samsung player or TV.

Before you change anything: Confirm you are using the original DVD, not only a digital trailer file. Try the player remote’s arrow and Enter/OK buttons, not just the TV remote if they are different. Avoid scratched cleaning methods that can damage the disc further. Do not download “DVD unlock” software from unknown sites.
