How do I fix a Cambridge Audio CX100 that will not power on?

Answer

Confirm the rear mains switch is on (if present), plug the CX100 directly into a known-good wall outlet, then try the front power control again. If it still stays dead, unplug it for one full minute and retry. Stop and seek service if you smell burning, hear unusual noises, or see error indicators.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unplug the unit and stop troubleshooting if you notice burning smells, smoke, or excessive heat.

Follow these steps

  1. Use the rear mains switch

If the CX100 has a rear mains rocker, turn it fully off, wait a few seconds, then turn it on. Leave the front panel off for the moment.

You should see: The rear switch clicks firmly into the on position and any standby indicator behavior becomes visible.

  2. Plug into a known-good wall outlet

Unplug the CX100 from any power strip, conditioner, or surge bar. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet that already powers another working device.

You should see: The unit is on direct wall power instead of a strip or conditioner.

  3. Try front-panel power

Press the front power control to turn the unit on and watch for display light, relay clicks, or normal startup.

You should see: The CX100 powers on, or it remains completely dark with no response.

  4. Power-drain for one minute

If it still will not start, turn the rear switch off (if present), unplug the cord from the wall for one full minute, plug it directly into the wall again, switch the rear mains on, and retry the front power control.

You should see: The unit starts after the drain, or it still shows no power signs.

  5. Stop for service if still dead

If there is still no power, disconnect the unit and contact Cambridge Audio or an authorized service provider with the model and serial number. Do not keep forcing power cycles if you noticed smells, sounds, or heat.

You should see: You have a clear hardware-service path and the unit is left unplugged.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether any front display or standby light appears, whether the rear mains switch is present and on, and any unusual smells, sounds, or error messages.

Before you change anything: Unplug the unit before moving cables. Use a wall outlet that you know powers another device. Avoid opening the chassis yourself if the unit is under warranty. Stop immediately if there is smoke, burning smell, or heat from the case.
