How do I recover a forgotten Apple ID email address?
Answer
If you forgot which email is your Apple ID, use Apple’s official Forgot Apple ID lookup with a phone number or other details you still control, then reset the password through Apple’s account recovery flow.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Apple account recovery can take time; creating a new Apple ID can make photos and purchases harder to reunite.
Follow these steps
Look for the Apple ID on a device you still have
On any iPhone, iPad, or Mac you still own, open Settings or System Settings and check the name at the top, or check Mail/Messages accounts for an Apple ID address.
You should see: The Apple ID email is visible on a signed-in device, or no signed-in device is available.
Search old receipts and emails
Search your inbox and paper or PDF invoices for Apple, iCloud, or App Store receipts; the Apple ID is often printed near the account details.
You should see: An old receipt or message reveals the Apple ID address.
Use Apple’s Forgot Apple ID lookup
On a browser, open Apple’s official iforgot.apple.com page and choose the option to look up your Apple ID with your name and phone number details.
You should see: Apple shows a possible Apple ID match or asks for more verification.
Reset the password after you find the ID
Once you know the Apple ID, use Apple’s password reset or account recovery options. Prefer email, trusted device, or trusted phone number paths you control.
You should see: You can sign in again, or Apple starts a timed account recovery process.
Avoid creating a duplicate Apple ID
If recovery is pending, wait for Apple’s process instead of making a second Apple ID that splits purchases and iCloud data.
You should see: You regain the original account rather than splitting data across two IDs.

Extra tips
What to look for: Any old device still signed into iCloud, purchase receipts that show an Apple ID, or Apple’s lookup page asking for name and phone number details.
Before you change anything: Check old iPhones, iPads, or Macs that may still be signed in. Gather old email addresses you used, including former ISP addresses. Prefer Apple’s official account recovery pages only. Do not create a brand-new Apple ID if your purchases and photos are on the old one.
