How do I remove a Device unreachable bulb from the Kasa app?

Answer

Power the bulb if possible, try Remove Device again, and if it stays unreachable, delete it from the Kasa app's device settings while on the same account. If removal still fails, power-cycle the bulb, confirm you are on the owner's Kasa account, then remove it; swapping the bulb to another fixture helps determine whether the bulb or the fixture wiring is at fault.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Turn power off at the switch before removing a bulb from a live socket if you need to handle the fixture, and let the bulb cool.

Follow these steps

  1. Power the bulb and retry remove

Make sure the wall switch is on. Open the Kasa app, select the unreachable bulb, and choose Remove Device or Delete. Confirm the prompt.

You should see: The bulb disappears from the device list, or you get a clearer error.

  2. Swap fixtures to isolate the bulb

Move the smart bulb to a different working lamp and put a regular bulb in the original fixture. See whether Device unreachable follows the smart bulb.

You should see: You know whether the problem follows the bulb or stays with the original fixture.

  3. Reset the bulb, then remove the old entry

If the bulb still fails, perform the Kasa bulb factory reset method for your model (usually a rapid on/off sequence from the wall switch), add it fresh if needed, or remove the stale unreachable entry again from the app.

You should see: The stale device is gone, and optionally the bulb can be re-added as new.

  4. Confirm account and app refresh

Pull to refresh the Kasa Home screen. If the ghost device remains, sign out of Kasa, sign back in on the owner account, and check the device list once more.

You should see: Only real, reachable devices remain in the app.

Extra tips

What to look for: Kasa status Offline or Device unreachable; Remove device option on the bulb's page; whether the error follows the bulb to another fixture.

Before you change anything: Sign in with the Kasa account that originally added the bulb. Turn the wall switch on so the bulb has power during removal attempts. Note whether other Kasa devices still work on the same Wi-Fi.
