How do I unlock a Google Pixel phone after too many failed attempts?

Answer

Wait until the lockout timer expires and try the correct PIN, pattern, or password once; if it is forgotten, use Find My Device with the Google account or a factory reset that will require that same Google account afterward.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset erases photos, messages, and apps stored only on the phone.
  • Paid unlock services that promise no erase are often scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Wait out the lockout timer

Leave the phone alone until the try later period ends, then enter the correct PIN, pattern, or password once carefully.

You should see: The phone unlocks, or the credential is confirmed wrong.

  2. Use Find My Device if the phone was online

From another device, open Google’s Find My Device with the same Google account and see whether secure or locate options are available.

You should see: Remote options appear, or the phone is offline and must be handled locally.

  3. Factory reset only if the credential is unknown

If the lock credential is forgotten, use the Pixel recovery/factory reset process for your model after accepting that local data will be erased.

You should see: The phone resets to setup.

  4. Sign in with the previous Google account

During setup, enter the Google account that was on the Pixel when Factory Reset Protection asks for it, then create a new screen lock.

You should see: The phone is usable again under your account.

Extra tips

What to look for: too many attempts, try later messaging, lockout countdown behavior, and whether the Google account on the phone is still accessible from another device

Before you change anything: Stop guessing codes so the lockout does not extend. Confirm you still know the Google account password for the Pixel. Backups may be lost if a factory reset is required. Ignore anyone offering paid remote unlocks.
