How do I update a card in Google Pay when it keeps asking for a PIN?

Open payments.google.com or the Google Wallet/Pay payments settings, unlock with your screen lock or Google PIN, then edit or replace the card. If the Google PIN is forgotten, reset screen lock/PIN from Android Settings before managing payments.

  • Factory resetting to clear a screen lock erases the phone.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Google payments

    Open Chrome to payments.google.com or open Google Wallet payment methods and sign in.

    You should see: Your saved cards are listed after device unlock.

  2. Authenticate with screen lock

    When prompted, use fingerprint, pattern, or device PIN—the same lock you use to open the phone.

    You should see: Payment settings unlock.

  3. Edit or replace the card

    Tap the card and choose Edit or Remove, then add the updated card details.

    You should see: The new card saves on the Google account.

  4. Reset device lock if PIN is unknown

    If you cannot unlock payments because the device PIN is forgotten, reset the screen lock via Google Find Hub / device recovery, then return to payments.

    You should see: A new screen lock lets you manage cards again.
