How do I update a payment card on my Apple ID or iPhone?

Answer

Update the card in Settings > [your name] > Payment & Shipping on iPhone, or at account.apple.com on a computer. If the Apple ID password is forgotten, reset it through Apple’s official forgot-password flow before you can change billing details.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Phishing pages may imitate Apple billing; use Settings or account.apple.com only.

Follow these steps

  1. Sign in to the Apple ID first

On iPhone open Settings and tap your name. If asked, sign in. If you forgot the password, use Forgot Password on the Apple ID screen or account.apple.com.

You should see: You are signed into the correct Apple ID.

  2. Open Payment & Shipping

Tap Payment & Shipping (or Media & Purchases > View Account > Payment Information, depending on iOS version).

You should see: Your current payment methods are listed.

  3. Add or edit the card

Choose the existing card to edit, or add a new card, enter the new number and billing address, and save.

You should see: Apple accepts the card or shows a specific decline/error to fix.

  4. Confirm with a test or subscription check

Open a subscription page or App Store account view and confirm the new card is the selected default.

You should see: The updated card shows as the active payment method.

Extra tips

What to look for: Payment & Shipping or Media & Purchases payment method screens, and any password or verification prompts.

Before you change anything: Have the new card details ready. Know the Apple ID email on the device. Reset the Apple ID password only on Apple’s official site or device screens. Never give the password or codes to unexpected callers.
