What can I try if the right controller on an Acorn stairlift fails?

Answer

If an Acorn stairlift ignores the right controller, first confirm the key switch is on and the lift shows a ready light, then try the other controller and a power reset. If only one side is dead, stop DIY electrical work and use Acorn service for that control.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Stairlift repairs involving wiring or safety switches can cause sudden movement or shock; use qualified service.
  • Do not defeat safety edges or interlocks to force the lift to run.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm key and ready light

Make sure the key switch is turned on and the green ready or power light is showing before using the right controller.

You should see: The lift indicates it is powered and ready.

  2. Test the other control

Try the left armrest control or remote. If those work, the issue is isolated to the right controller rather than the whole lift.

You should see: The lift moves from the other control, or no control works.

  3. Power-reset the lift

Turn the key off, switch power off at the stairlift power supply or wall switch for one minute, restore power, turn the key on, and test the right controller again.

You should see: The right controller responds, or the same failure remains.

  4. Call Acorn service if still dead

If only the right controller fails after a reset, contact Acorn or an authorized technician and share any beep code or light pattern rather than opening the armrest yourself.

You should see: You have a service request for controller repair or replacement.

Extra tips

What to look for: A green ready light, key-switch position, error beeps or codes, and whether the left or remote control still moves the lift.

Before you change anything: Keep the stairlift key in the on position only if the area is clear. Do not bypass safety sensors. Clear the rail path of objects. Stop and call service if the lift moves unexpectedly or smells burnt.
