Why does a PS5 stay offline when Wi-Fi is connected?

When PS5 Wi-Fi looks fine but games cannot go online, PlayStation Network, NAT type, or DNS settings are usually the problem. Check PSN status, test the connection from Settings, then try a DNS refresh or wired connection if wireless remains unstable.
Follow these steps
Check PlayStation Network status
On the PS5 go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > View PlayStation Network Status, and also check Sony’s public status page from a phone.
You should see: You confirm whether PSN is down or the outage is only on your console.
Test and reconnect the network
Run Test Internet Connection from Network settings, then forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network. Restart the modem and router if the test fails.
You should see: The test shows successful internet and PSN results, or highlights where it fails.
Try automatic DNS or a public DNS
In network settings, set DNS to Automatic, or try well-known public DNS addresses if Automatic fails. Save and test the connection again.
You should see: Games get past Checking network connection more quickly.
Use Ethernet if Wi-Fi remains unstable
Connect the PS5 directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and retest online play. If wired works, the Wi-Fi path or mesh hop is likely at fault.
You should see: Online features load over the wired connection.
