Why does a Samsung Z Fold ask for a password after usually unlocking with a pattern?

Samsung phones sometimes fall back to a secondary PIN/password after too many wrong patterns, a restart, or a security update. The pattern alternative is not the same as a Samsung or Google account password reset done on a website. Use Find My Mobile unlock if enabled; otherwise the password you set as a backup lock is required to avoid a data-erasing reset.

Follow these steps
Try the backup screen lock you created with the pattern
Enter the PIN or password you chose when you originally set the pattern. This is different from your Samsung account password.
You should see: The phone unlocks with the backup screen-lock credential.
Use Find My Mobile unlock to preserve data
On a computer or another phone, open Samsung Find My Mobile, sign in with the Samsung account on the Z Fold 2, select the device, and choose Unlock.
You should see: The lock clears without erasing local photos, or the site reports unlock is unavailable.
Check Samsung Cloud backups before any reset
From another device, sign in to Samsung account storage or Google Photos and confirm which photos are already backed up.
You should see: You know what would still be safe if a factory reset becomes unavoidable.
Factory reset only as last resort
If unlock is impossible, use Samsung recovery wipe/factory reset, then sign in with the previous Google account for FRP, accepting that on-device photos not backed up will be lost.
