Why does TikTok keep blocking me from sending gifts?
Answer
TikTok often blocks gifts because of purchase restrictions, temporary safety limits, or an outdated app—not because your friend blocked you. On iPhone, allow App Store purchases in Screen Time, update TikTok, try a smaller gift, then wait up to 24 hours if a temporary limit was triggered.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never buy TikTok coins from unofficial sellers or share your password with anyone claiming they can bypass gift blocks.
Follow these steps
Allow purchases on the device
On iPhone, go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If restrictions are on, open iTunes & App Store Purchases and allow Installing Apps / In-app Purchases as appropriate. On Android, open Google Play > profile > Payments & subscriptions and confirm payments work for your account.
You should see: The device is allowed to complete in-app purchases needed for TikTok gifts/coins.
Update TikTok
Open the App Store or Google Play, update TikTok to the latest version, then force-close and reopen the app.
You should see: TikTok runs on the current version without an update prompt.
Try a lower-cost gift
Open the live or chat gift panel and send one small, low-coin gift first instead of a large gift. Complete any official coin purchase prompts only inside TikTok.
You should see: The small gift sends successfully, or you get a clearer error than a generic block.
Check payment method and coin balance
In TikTok’s wallet/coins screen, confirm you have enough coins and that the saved payment method is valid. Re-add the card through the official purchase sheet if payment failed.
You should see: Coins are available and payment methods show as ready.
Wait out a temporary gifting limit
If gifts still fail after a small successful test—or if TikTok mentions a limit—stop trying high-coin gifts and wait about 24 hours before another attempt. Repeated rapid retries can extend the temporary block.
You should see: Gifting works again after the cooldown, especially for normal-sized gifts.

Extra tips
What to look for: An on-screen message that gifting is unavailable, a purchase that fails to complete, or gifts that fail only above a certain coin amount.
Before you change anything: Note the exact message TikTok shows when the gift is blocked. Confirm you are using the official TikTok app from the App Store or Google Play. Avoid third-party coin sellers. Never share your TikTok password or verification codes with anyone offering to unlock gifts.
