Why is a Fitbit not recording exercise after a workout?
Answer
Missing workout data is usually caused by a sync delay, an activity that was never started in Exercise mode, or a tracker that needs a restart. Syncing the Fitbit app and restarting the watch often makes the session appear, or shows that the activity was not captured.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- A factory reset of the Fitbit can erase unsynced activity still stored only on the watch.
- Install updates only from the official app store and Fitbit app.
Follow these steps
Sync the Fitbit app
Open the official Fitbit app, pull to refresh or tap the tracker tile to sync, and keep the phone nearby with Bluetooth on.
You should see: The last sync time updates and any stored workout should appear if it was recorded.
Restart the Fitbit
Restart the tracker using the model’s button combination—for many Versa models, hold the side button about 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears—then sync again.
You should see: The watch reboots and syncs; missing recent activity either appears or is confirmed absent.
Check how the workout was tracked
In the app’s exercise history, see whether a manual Exercise session exists. If you only wore the watch without starting an exercise mode, review Active Zone Minutes or steps for that time instead.
You should see: You can tell whether the workout was stored under a different metric or never captured as an exercise.
Reinstall app permissions if sync still fails
On the phone, confirm Bluetooth, location (if required by your OS), and background refresh permissions for Fitbit, then reboot the phone and sync once more.
You should see: The tracker connects consistently and new activity uploads after the next walk or exercise.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the Fitbit battery is charged, whether Bluetooth shows the tracker connected, and whether a named exercise entry is missing versus step count still increasing.
Before you change anything: Open the official Fitbit app on the phone paired to the tracker. Confirm phone Bluetooth is on and app permissions are allowed. Note the Fitbit model if shown in the app. Avoid third-party battery-killer apps while troubleshooting.
