Why isn’t a Philips electric toothbrush charging properly?
Answer
Most Philips brush charging problems come from poor seating on the charger, a dirty metal contact area, or a handle that needs a long undisturbed charge cycle before it recovers.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Keep chargers away from standing water; wipe spills before plugging the charger back in.
Follow these steps
Clean and dry the charging surfaces
Unplug the charger, wipe the charger post and the bottom of the handle dry and free of toothpaste residue, then reconnect power.
You should see: Charging surfaces are clean and dry.
Seat the handle fully on the charger
Place the handle on the charger so it sits all the way down and does not rock. Listen for normal charge behavior rather than continuous odd buzzing alone.
You should see: The handle sits securely and begins a charge cycle.
Leave it charging undisturbed
Leave the handle on the charger undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours before testing again, especially if the battery was deeply drained.
You should see: The handle holds power for a brushing session after the long charge.
Retest with the official charger only
If charging still fails, confirm the charger model matches the handle and contact Philips support or the retailer about a replacement battery handle or charger.
You should see: A parts replacement path is identified if the long charge fails.

Extra tips
What to look for: Buzzing on the charger without a normal charge indicator, or a handle that still dies quickly after a short charge attempt
Before you change anything: Use only the matching Philips charger for that handle. Dry the handle and charger before charging. Do not leave the charger in standing water. Avoid third-party chargers that do not fit securely.
