Why won’t resistance increase on a ProForm exercise bike?

Answer

Power-cycle the bike, confirm the resistance motor cable is seated at the console and base, then recalibrate resistance from the console service or settings menu if your model offers it. Persistent failure after calibration usually means a resistance motor or console parts issue.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unplug the bike before handling motor or console connectors.

Follow these steps

  1. Power reset

    Turn the bike off, unplug it for two minutes, plug it back in, and power on.

    You should see: The console restarts cleanly.

  2. Check resistance cabling

    With power unplugged, inspect the console cable and resistance motor connector for a loose or pinched plug, then reseat it firmly.

    You should see: Connectors sit fully seated.

  3. Calibrate resistance

    Using your model’s manual, enter the console resistance calibration or engineering menu and run the calibration cycle.

    You should see: Resistance levels move through their range, or an error appears.

  4. Retest under load

    Sit on the bike and step resistance up through several levels. If nothing changes, contact ProForm support with the model and error text.

    You should see: Resistance feels stronger at higher levels, or support/parts are required.
