Why am I not receiving WhatsApp messages from only one contact while traveling?
Answer
When only one WhatsApp chat is broken, check that contact’s chat settings for mute, disappearing messages, or block/restrict options, confirm you are not viewing an archived chat, and ask the other person whether your number is blocked. Network roaming is less likely if other WhatsApp chats still work on the same Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Follow these steps
Open that contact’s chat info
Open the person’s chat in WhatsApp and tap their name at the top to open chat info or contact info.
You should see: You see options such as Mute, Disappearing messages, Export chat, Block, and related privacy controls.
Check mute, disappearing messages, and restrictions
Turn off Mute if it is enabled, review Disappearing messages, and look for Blocked or any restriction that looks unusual. Also check Archived chats in the main chat list in case the conversation was archived.
You should see: Any mute, archive, or disappearing-message setting that could hide messages is corrected.
Verify delivery and the other person’s side
Send a short test message and note whether it stays on one checkmark. Ask the other person (by SMS or another app) whether they still have your number in WhatsApp and whether you are blocked or they changed phones/numbers.
You should see: You learn whether messages leave your phone and whether the problem is on their account or number.
Refresh WhatsApp network state
If settings look normal, force-close WhatsApp, toggle Airplane mode for 15 seconds, reopen WhatsApp, and confirm it says Connected. Update WhatsApp from the official App Store or Google Play if an update is available.
You should see: WhatsApp reconnects; if that one chat is still broken while others work, the issue is likely account- or contact-specific rather than travel network alone.

Extra tips
What to look for: Mute, Disappearing messages, Blocked, Restricted, or Archived on that contact’s chat info, plus whether single checkmarks never become delivered.
Before you change anything: Confirm other WhatsApp chats still send and receive on the same network. Do not delete the chat or reinstall WhatsApp until you have checked that contact’s settings. Avoid unofficial WhatsApp mods. Never share verification codes with unexpected callers.
