Why won’t apps load on a new Fire TV or Amazon smart TV?
Answer
When every app fails to open on a new Fire TV / Fire OS TV, the usual causes are a stuck Appstore cache, outdated Fire OS, or a single bad app install—not a broken screen. Clear the Appstore cache, update the system, then force-stop and clear cache on one problem app such as Prime Video.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Clearing app data removes local sign-in state for that app and you will need to sign in again.
Follow these steps
Force-stop and clear the Appstore cache
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, open Appstore, then choose Force Stop and Clear Cache.
You should see: Appstore stops cleanly and its cache is cleared without a fee or unusual prompt.
Install available Fire OS updates
Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates and install any update offered, then let the TV restart if asked.
You should see: The TV reports it is up to date, or an update installs and reboots successfully.
Reset one problem app such as Prime Video
Return to Manage Installed Applications, open Prime Video (or another failing app), then Force Stop and Clear Cache. Try opening the app again.
You should see: The app progresses past the splash screen or shows a normal sign-in screen.
Clear app data only if cache alone fails
If the same app still will not load, open it again under Manage Installed Applications and choose Clear Data, then sign back in with your Amazon account from the official app prompts.
You should see: The app launches after a fresh sign-in, or you see a clear network/sign-in error to act on next.
Separate subscription add-ons from app-load failures
If the TV apps open but a specific service (for example a carrier add-on such as Paramount+) will not play, check that add-on’s status in the carrier account and sign into the official app—do not treat a subscription issue as a Fire OS crash.
You should see: You know whether the remaining problem is app launching or only a subscription entitlement.

Extra tips
What to look for: Apps open briefly then fail, or never leave the splash screen; Fire OS version under About; Appstore force-stop and clear-cache options
Before you change anything: Confirm the TV is on Wi‑Fi and other devices can reach the internet. Note your Fire OS version before updates. Clearing app data may require signing back into that app. Do not pay anyone who claims they can “unlock” TV apps remotely.
