How do I get Kindle books from an old Kindle onto a new Kindle?
Answer
Kindle purchases stay in the Amazon account library, not only on the old device. Delivering titles from Manage Your Content and Devices to the new Kindle, then syncing, usually restores the books.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Deregistering a Kindle before confirming the Amazon library can make troubleshooting harder if devices were on different accounts.
Follow these steps
Open Manage Your Content and Devices
On a computer or phone browser, sign in to Amazon and open Manage Your Content and Devices.
You should see: You see tabs such as Content and Devices for your Amazon account.
Confirm both Kindles are registered
Open Devices and confirm the new Kindle and the older Kindle or reading app are listed under the same Amazon account.
You should see: The new Kindle appears as a registered device you can deliver books to.
Deliver books to the new Kindle
Open Content, find a missing book, choose Deliver or Deliver to Device, and select the new Kindle. Repeat for other titles you need right away.
You should see: Amazon confirms delivery, or the book is queued for that Kindle.
Sync the new Kindle
On the new Kindle, connect to Wi-Fi and use Sync or refresh the library. Check whether the delivered titles appear and open.
You should see: The missing books show up on the new Kindle and can be read.
Check older or missing titles carefully
If some titles still do not appear, search for them again in Manage Your Content and Devices Content. Very old devices or removed storefront titles may need delivery to a newer Kindle or the Kindle app instead.
You should see: You identify which books can still be delivered and which need Amazon support.

Extra tips
What to look for: Books present in Amazon Content but missing on the new Kindle library after sign-in, or Deliver to Device options under Manage Your Content and Devices.
Before you change anything: Confirm both Kindles are registered to the same Amazon account. Do not deregister the old Kindle until you have verified the books appear in Amazon Content. Use only the official Amazon account website for Manage Your Content and Devices. Never share passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
