How do I arrange return of a lost phone found by a rideshare driver?

Answer

Use the rideshare app’s official lost-item or trip support tools to message the driver, and keep Lost Mode or Find My active on the phone if it is still linked to your account. Avoid sharing personal meeting details outside the official app channel when possible.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Be cautious of messages that ask you to pay a fee, share passwords, or meet in an isolated place to “unlock” or return the phone.
  • Turning off Lost Mode before you physically have the phone can make recovery harder if contact is lost again.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the trip in the rideshare app

On another phone, tablet, or computer, sign in to the same Uber account (or the rideshare app you used), open the recent trip, and look for Help, Contact driver, or Report lost item.

You should see: You reach an official support or messaging path tied to that trip.

  2. Send a clear return request through support

Describe the phone (make, color, case) and ask support to help coordinate return with the driver. Prefer in-app messaging over sharing extra personal details in public posts.

You should see: Support confirms your request was sent or gives next steps for contacting the driver.

  3. Keep Lost Mode active

If the phone is an iPhone or Android device still linked to your account, confirm Find My / Find Hub Lost Mode is on and that the lock screen shows a contact method you control.

You should see: The device still shows as lost online, with a reachable recovery message on the lock screen.

  4. Arrange a safe handoff

When a meeting is confirmed, choose a public location, bring ID if asked to prove ownership, and verify the phone before ending Lost Mode.

You should see: You recover the phone in a safe setting and can unlock or mark it as found afterward.

Extra tips

What to look for: A Lost Mode or lock-screen message such as “This phone is lost,” plus any lost-item or trip support option in the rideshare app for that ride.

Before you change anything: Confirm which rideshare app and recent trip the phone was left in. Use only the official app or website support—not random texts claiming to be the driver. Decide on a public, well-lit meetup place if an in-person handoff is needed. Do not turn off Find My / Lost Mode until the phone is back in your hands.
