How do I change Wi-Fi on a Ring video doorbell without a setup code?

Answer

For an already-installed Ring doorbell, Wi-Fi is usually changed in the Ring app under the device’s settings—not by finding a sticker code. Open the doorbell in the app, use Device Health or network settings, and choose the option to reconnect or change Wi-Fi. If the app demands a code for a fresh setup, use “set up without scanning” or manual device selection when offered.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Removing a doorbell from an account or factory-resetting it can disrupt chimes and shared users until setup is finished again.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the doorbell in the Ring app

Open the Ring app, sign in, and select the video doorbell from the device list. Confirm it is the unit that needs the new network.

You should see: The doorbell’s live view or device page opens under the account.

  2. Check Device Health

Open Device Health for that doorbell and review network status, signal strength, and any reconnect guidance shown there.

You should see: Device Health shows the current network status or a prompt related to connectivity.

  3. Change or reconnect Wi-Fi

From the doorbell’s device settings, choose the Change Wi-Fi, Reconnect, or similar network option. Follow the in-app prompts and join the new Wi-Fi network when asked. Update the device location in settings if that is part of the move.

You should see: The app reports the doorbell joined the new Wi-Fi, or shows a clear failure reason.

  4. Use setup without a code if re-adding

If the app will not continue without a QR code, choose set up without scanning, enter setup manually, or pick the doorbell from the nearby-device list when Ring offers those options. Keep the phone close during pairing mode.

You should see: Setup continues without scanning a sticker, or Ring shows that the device must be put into pairing mode first.

  5. Confirm live video on the new network

After Wi-Fi changes, open Live View and trigger a doorbell press or motion event to confirm the camera stays online.

You should see: Live View loads on the new network and the device stays connected in Device Health.

Extra tips

What to look for: The doorbell entry in the Ring app, Device Health, a Change Wi-Fi or Reconnect option, and any “set up without scanning” choice if adding the device again.

Before you change anything: Confirm the doorbell already appears under the correct Ring account. Stay near the doorbell and have the new Wi-Fi name and password ready. Use the official Ring app from the App Store or Google Play. Never share Ring login codes with unexpected callers.
