How do I fix a Humminbird Xplore 10 that shows no PHY found on an Ethernet switch?
Answer
Check link LEDs and the Humminbird network menu first, then power-cycle the Xplore 10 and the Ethernet switch in the right order. A missing Ethernet PHY link usually means cable, port, or reset timing—not a Google account issue.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Shut power off before changing wet or corroded connectors. Marine 12V systems can short damaged Ethernet ports.
- Ignore advice that treats this as a Google or Mac sign-in problem; it is a local Ethernet PHY/link issue.
Follow these steps
Check Humminbird network detection
On the Xplore 10, open the network or Ethernet device menu and see whether it detects any accessory at all, even if a status light stays off.
You should see: You know whether the head unit sees zero devices or a partial list.
Inspect RJ45 link LEDs
Check the RJ45 link LEDs on the Altera/P5 GL switch side and on the Xplore 10 Ethernet port. Reseat each cable firmly and try a known-good Ethernet cable if you have one.
You should see: At least one link LED lights or the connection status changes when the cable is good.
Power-cycle the Xplore 10
Turn the Xplore 10 completely off, wait 30 to 60 seconds, then turn it back on while leaving the switch powered.
You should see: The display restarts cleanly and rechecks Ethernet after boot.
Recheck the switch ports
After the wait, check the AS ETH / P5 GL switch again for link on the port used for the Minn Kota or network path, and swap to another switch port if your wiring allows it.
You should see: Link returns on a working port, or you isolate the fault to one cable or port.
Confirm compatibility limits
If this is an older Ulterra or a non-Link trolling motor, confirm whether the Xplore 10 is expected to show full motor control over Ethernet. The motor can run normally even when network control features are limited.
You should see: You know whether missing control is a wiring fault or a model limitation.

Extra tips
What to look for: The exact message no PHY found, dark or blinking RJ45 link LEDs on the Altera/P5 GL and Xplore 10 sides, and whether Humminbird’s network menu detects any device at all.
Before you change anything: Note which ports and cables connect the Altera/P5 GL switch, Xplore 10, and any Minn Kota Link gear. Do not cut or splice marine Ethernet cables unless you have the correct connectors. Power down electronics before swapping ports when possible. Keep the boat’s 12V system stable while testing.
