How do I fix Input not supported or Out of range on a Lorex monitor?
Answer
Those messages usually mean the monitor cannot display the DVR/NVR output resolution or refresh rate currently set. Lower the recorder’s display resolution to a common setting such as 1080p, reseat the HDMI/VGA cable, then power-cycle the recorder and monitor.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not format the hard drive while troubleshooting a display-only error.
- Avoid unofficial remote-access tools offered by unexpected callers to “fix” the Lorex screen.
Follow these steps
Reseat the video cable
Power off the monitor, unplug the HDMI or VGA cable at both ends, reconnect firmly to the main video out port, then power the monitor back on.
You should see: The cable path is solid; the error may clear or remain.
Lower the recorder display resolution
Use the Lorex recorder’s front-panel or remote display/resolution controls to step down to 1080p or another standard PC/monitor resolution supported by your screen.
You should see: The monitor shows the Lorex live view or menu.
Power-cycle recorder and monitor
Shut down the recorder if possible, unplug both units for one minute, power the monitor first, then the recorder.
You should see: The desktop or camera grid appears without Out of range.
Try a known-good monitor
If the error continues, temporarily connect the recorder to a TV or monitor that supports 1080p HDMI and set a compatible resolution before reconnecting the original screen.
You should see: You regain menu access and can lock in a resolution the original monitor supports.

Extra tips
What to look for: Input not supported or Out of range text, HDMI vs VGA connection, and whether cameras still record
Before you change anything: Confirm cameras still record or the recorder lights are on. Note whether the cable is HDMI or VGA. Do not format drives while fixing the display. Have a spare monitor available if possible.
