How do I fix a Google Nest or Long Plus camera that shows offline?

Answer

An offline camera usually means it lost power or Wi‑Fi. Check the camera status light, power-cycle that camera, then restart the router and wait a few minutes for it to reconnect before trying live view again.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unplug only the camera and router power cords; do not open the camera housing or cut wires.

Follow these steps

  1. Check the camera status light

Look at the offline camera’s LED. Note whether it is off, solid, or blinking, and whether the camera feels powered.

You should see: You know if the camera has power or is stuck trying to reconnect.

  2. Power-cycle the offline camera

Unplug the camera for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait until the status light returns to a normal ready or connecting pattern.

You should see: The camera restarts and begins searching for Wi‑Fi again.

  3. Restart the Wi‑Fi router

Unplug the router for about 30 to 60 seconds, plug it back in, and wait 2 to 3 minutes for the network to come back up. Give the camera a few more minutes to reconnect.

You should see: Other devices regain internet, and the offline camera often returns online in the app.

  4. Retry live view after reconnect

Open the camera in the Google Home or Nest app and try live stream again. If status updates work but live view still fails with 415, leave the camera online for a few minutes, then retry once more after another short router restart.

You should see: The camera shows online and live view opens, or you have a clearer remaining error to take to Google support.

Extra tips

What to look for: Camera marked offline in the Google Home or camera app, status light behavior, and any live-view error such as Failed to request live stream (415).

Before you change anything: Note which camera is offline and how long it has been offline. Confirm other cameras or devices still use the same Wi‑Fi. Do not factory-reset the camera until power and router steps fail. Never share your Google password or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
