How do I fix a Vizio TV that will not turn on?

Answer

When a Vizio TV will not turn on, start with a wall-outlet power reset: unplug the TV from the wall (not only a power strip), leave it unplugged for several minutes, then plug it into a known-good wall outlet and try the power button on the TV itself. If it still stays dark, check the outlet, remote batteries, and whether any standby light behavior changed.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unplug the TV before rearranging power cords; do not open the internal power supply yourself.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the outlet and remote basics

Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet to confirm power. Replace remote batteries and press the power button on the TV bezel or back panel.

You should see: You know whether the outlet works and whether the TV responds without the remote.

  2. Unplug the TV from the wall

Turn the TV off if it partially responds, then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet itself—not only from a power strip. Leave it unplugged for a full five minutes.

You should see: The TV is fully disconnected long enough to clear a stuck power state.

  3. Try a different wall outlet

Plug only the TV into a different known-good wall outlet. Press the TV’s physical power button and wait up to a minute for the screen or startup logo.

You should see: The TV powers on, or it remains dark with the same symptom for the next check.

  4. Isolate connected devices

If it still will not start, unplug HDMI devices (cable/satellite box, streaming stick) and try power again with only the TV connected. Reconnect devices one at a time after it turns on.

You should see: The TV turns on alone, or you identify a device/path that blocks startup.

  5. Seek service if there is no power response

If there is no standby light change and no response from the TV power button after the outlet reset, contact Vizio support or a qualified TV technician with the model and serial number.

You should see: You have a support or repair path when a soft reset does not restore power.

Extra tips

What to look for: Any standby LED behavior, whether the TV responds to the physical power button, whether other devices work on the same outlet, and whether sound from a connected box plays while the screen stays off.

Before you change anything: Unplug the TV before moving cables. Note whether a standby light was on before you started. Try the power button on the TV, not only the remote. Do not open the TV case or force internal repairs under warranty unless a technician directs it.
