How do I find and turn on HDMI-CEC on a VIZIO TV?

Answer

On most VIZIO TVs, CEC is labeled CEC, HDMI CEC, or SimpLink under System or System settings. Turning that option on, then enabling CEC on each connected device, usually lets the TV and gear control each other.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not pay an unexpected fee or share payment details with someone who only promises to “find CEC” for you.

Follow these steps

  1. Open VIZIO Settings

Press the Menu or Settings button on the VIZIO remote and open the full Settings list.

You should see: You see categories such as System, Network, Input, or Devices.

  2. Find the CEC or SimpLink option

Open System (or Devices / Control & devices, depending on software). Look for CEC, HDMI CEC, or SimpLink and turn it on.

You should see: The CEC control switch is enabled on the TV.

  3. Enable CEC on each connected device

On the streaming stick, soundbar, Blu-ray player, or console, open its settings and turn on its HDMI-CEC feature (names vary by brand).

You should see: Both the TV and the device show CEC enabled.

  4. Test power and input control

Power on the connected device and check whether the TV wakes and switches to the correct HDMI input. Try volume or power-off behavior if those CEC options are available.

You should see: The TV and device respond together, or you can narrow the issue to one HDMI port or one device.

Extra tips

What to look for: A menu item named CEC, HDMI CEC, or SimpLink, plus whether connected devices also list a CEC, Bravia Sync, Anynet+, or similar option.

Before you change anything: Confirm the TV brand and whether devices are connected with HDMI, not only optical or RCA. Note which HDMI ports you use before changing CEC settings. Avoid paying unexpected third-party fees just to find a settings menu that is already in the TV. Never share account passwords when someone cold-calls about TV setup.
