How do I get water flowing again after winter storage?

After winter storage, no water flow is often caused by a stuck pump, clogged inlet screen, or air lock—not always a failed part. Power off, clean the inlet screen, restore water supply and pressure, then free a stuck pump head before replacing components.

Follow these steps
Power down and verify the water supply
Turn the unit off and disconnect power. Open the supply valve, check that inlet hoses are firmly connected, and confirm water pressure is present at the supply side before blaming the pump.
You should see: Power is off and you know whether fresh water is actually reaching the unit.
Clean the inlet fitting and screen
Remove the water inlet fitting or screen and clear debris, mineral buildup, or packed sediment. Rinse the screen, inspect the washer or gasket, and reinstall it snugly without cross-threading.
You should see: The inlet path is clean and resealed.
Restore pressure and check for an air lock
Reconnect the supply, open the valve slowly, and purge air from the inlet line according to your model’s priming instructions if it has any. Watch for leaks at the fitting you just cleaned.
You should see: Water pressure reaches the unit without obvious inlet leaks.
Free a stuck pump head
With supply pressure applied and following any model-specific safety notes, lightly tap the pump head with a screwdriver handle to help free a seized piston or valve after storage. Do not strike cooling fins, plastic housings, or electrical parts hard.
You should see: The pump frees up and water begins to move, or it remains stuck and needs service parts.
Decide whether a part must be replaced
If the inlet is clean and the pump still will not move water, check the manual for common winter-storage parts such as inlet valves, seals, or the pump assembly. Replace only the part that failed the inspection rather than swapping pieces at random.
