Why won’t streaming apps download or update on a Sony Bravia TV?

Answer

When internet speed is fine, Bravia download failures are often caused by a stuck TV software state, full internal storage, or an outdated system app list rather than the ISP alone.

Follow these steps

  1. Power-cycle the TV

Unplug the Bravia from power for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for a full boot.

You should see: The TV restarts cleanly and apps can be opened again.

  2. Restart the router

Unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait until Wi-Fi is back, and confirm the TV reconnects.

You should see: The TV shows a normal network connection.

  3. Check storage and cancel stuck downloads

On the TV, open settings for storage or apps, clear stuck download queues if present, and remove unused apps or offline downloads if storage is low.

You should see: There is enough free space for new installs or updates.

  4. Install system and app updates

Check for Sony system software updates and retry the Google Play or app store updates for the streaming apps.

You should see: Updates complete, or a clearer error appears.

  5. Reinstall one failing app

Uninstall one affected streaming app, restart the TV, reinstall it from the official store, and sign in again.

You should see: That app downloads and launches successfully.

Extra tips

What to look for: Apps stuck on Waiting, Pending, or Unable to download while other devices on the same network still stream normally

Before you change anything: Confirm another device streams fine on the same Wi-Fi. Note which apps fail to download or update. Avoid uninstalling the wrong system apps. Have the Google or Sony account password ready only for the TV’s own sign-in screen.
